Chandra Shuddhi — Combined Moon Purity (Tara + Chandra Bala)

One of the Pancha Shuddhi — assesses the Moon's purity from both nakshatra and sign positions simultaneously.

What is Chandra Shuddhi?

Tara Bala (Nakshatra Level)

Counts transit Moon's nakshatra from birth nakshatra in cycles of 9 — each cycle yields a Tara type (Janma, Sampat, Vipat…). Works at 13°20' resolution.

Sampat, Kshema, Sadhaka, Mitra, Ati-Mitra — auspicious
Janma — moderate
Vipat, Pratyak, Vadha — inauspicious

Chandra Bala (Sign Level)

Counts transit Moon's sign from birth Moon sign. Works at 30° resolution — coarser than Tara Bala.

Positions 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 — favorable
Positions 1, 2, 5, 9 — neutral
Positions 4, 8 (Ashtama), 12 — unfavorable
Merge rule: Tara Bala (finer granularity) takes precedence. Hard malefic Taras (Vadha, Pratyak) override any favorable Chandra Bala. When both align, the verdict is decisive — when they disagree, Tara Bala governs the severity.
